6 Ways to Meet Other Moms in the LGBTQ+ Community

Updated: Oct 6

Listen, we get it: Being a #lesbianmom can sometimes feel a little lonely if you don’t have other LGBTQ+ moms around to celebrate (and commiserate) motherhood with. That's why we think it's so important and special to find your gay mom group sooner rather than later.

Need to know what the best nap time for a four-year-old is? Or do you just want to relate to someone who gets being the only lesbian mom in the pickup line at school? What about the best kid-friendly book recommendations? No matter what you're looking for, every gay mom should have and know the support system that is LGBTQ+ friendship. Talking to other parents about your gay family can certainly help.

To help get you started, we've put together six fantastic ways to meet other moms in the community below.

Diverse group of mom friends

1. Go To LGBTQ+ Family Events

Keep an eye out for LGBTQ+ family events happening in your community. Chances are, your community — even if small — has an LGBTQ+ center that specifically caters to families like yours, offering a comfortable environment to connect with other lesbian moms and parents. Check local community centers, LGBTQ+ organizations, or even online event platforms for family-friendly meetups.

2. Join an Online Parenting Forum (Hint, Hint)

The internet is a treasure trove of resources, including forums and online communities dedicated to LGBTQ+ parenting, like Gay Moms Club. We're a platform for moms to share experiences, seek advice, and form virtual connections.

You can also participate in discussions, ask questions, and make friends from afar, or you might just find a fellow lesbian mom living nearby, too.

3. Download the Latest Parenting App

In the digital age, there's an app for everything, including connecting us gay moms. But our favorite, of course, is Gay Moms Club. Our app is designed for moms to meet and connect on the go, no matter how busy your schedule might be.

Experience weekly exclusive content drops, DM with other moms, participate in discussion boards, and the best (in our opinion) — attend virtual meetups and get connected to real LGBTQ+ moms who truly get you.

4. Use TikTok as a Resource

TikTok? That's right. This app is a HUGE resource for LGBTQ+ folks in finding community. Many moms are using the platform to showcase their life in lesbian motherhood, the happiness they've found that they never imagined was possible, and how they choose to be proudly out in the world. Interacting with other moms or even creating your own #GayMom content can be a great way to make virtual mama friends all around the world.

5. Book a Date — A Playdate

Initiating playdates with other LGBTQ+ families can be an amazing way to connect with other moms without the pressure of saying, "Let's be friends." Your kids will love it, too. While they play, you can have a chance to hang out with the grownups and see the friend potential.

6. Host, Host, Host

Do you love to host? This is a great option for those who don't mind getting folks together — think of a potluck picnic, a game night, or a simple coffee meetup — and is a great way to meet a bunch of gay moms at once. It's a space for you to connect with others plus bring the community together. Who knows, maybe you'll end up in a book club or a weekly playdate with a few moms, too.

It's true. Finding and connecting with other lesbian moms is a transformative experience and can be important in feeling supported and understood and building lasting friendships. Everyone deserves them. Don't wait any longer — now's your chance.
